• IOW Christmas Toy Appeal is a massive success

    • Toy_logo_bg

“Wow – the Isle of Wight smashed it yet again and really showed us the true meaning of Christmas! Massive thanks from the da Banks & the whole Bestival crew to all you lovely generous Islanders.” Rob da Bank

Generous Islanders have this year helped to seriously brighten up Christmas for hundreds of less fortunate children living locally on the Isle of Wight.

2012’s first IOW Christmas Toy Appeal (powered by Bestival, supported by IOW Radio & IOW County Press) set an initial target of 500 donated gifts, which soon rose to a slightly daunting 1,200 gifts as more and more local charities and good causes heard about the Appeal. Incredibly, on the final day of the Appeal (14th December), the running total smashed the 2,000 barrier, finally ending up at an incredible 2,233 donated gifts once the final toy was collected!

The race was then on to get every single gift wrapped, sorted into appropriate age & gender brackets and distributed to all those worthy causes right across the Isle of Wight. A team of fifty willing elves (including Rob & Josie da Bank, fellow Bestival promoter John Hughes plus members of the Bestival HQ team, Isle of Wight Radio, Isle of Wight County Press, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and many more worked for almost ten hours on Friday 14th December at a secret Island location amidst a veritable blur of Sellotape and brightly-coloured wrapping paper, finally wrapping the last toy (a fantastic Panini football game) late on Friday evening.

Christmas Toy Appeal organisers Daniel & Deborah Rooke and their trusty team of Santas then spent the next four days distributing the gifts to every Island agency that had registered an interest – and we can now very proudly report that every single Island child that we hoped to surprise with a donated gift was very well looked after… And that is all thanks to the generosity of thousands of you lovely Islanders!

Local charities that received gifts from the first IOW Christmas Toy Appeal:

    The Children’s Society
    Furze Hill
    St Mary’s Hospital
    Beaulieu House
    Women’s Refuge
    Yarborough House
    YMCA Young Carers
    Isle of Wight Youth Services
    The Foodbank
    YMCA Child Bereavement
    TCS Parenting Programme

“We would like to thank everybody who has donated a gift to the Appeal, the volunteer wrappers and all those individuals and businesses who have helped make the first IOW Christmas Toy Appeal such a success. Deborah and I would particularly like to thank IOW Radio, the County Press and The Bestival Foundation for their dedication and commitment to this Appeal. We want to say a special thankyou to Josie da Bank, without whom the Appeal would not have happened.” Organiser Daniel Rooke

The Isle of Wight Christmas Toy Appeal will return in December 2013! Find the appeal on Facebook and follow on Twitter.

  • Stay in The Wild Copse our premium campsite

    • Wildcopse_web_wide

After last year’s massive success, The Wild Copse, our new premium camping area nestled amongst a beautiful wooded area near to our healing area The Soul Park, is back for 2013! We know that sometimes festival camping can get busy and maybe a little rambunctious and so we thought some of you would like the opportunity to enjoy a little more space, and some top-notch facilities and so The Wild Copse was born.

The Wild Copse has its own car park (included in your ticket price) and then it’s just a short walk to where you can pitch your tent in an area that will be limited to a set number of ticket-holders to ensure there is plenty of space for everyone (& then some).

Included in The Wild Copse area will be posh toilets and showers (which will really come into their own when you want to refresh yourself in the morning having danced your socks off at Bollywood) as well as a great food and seating area and more.

Tickets for The Wild Copse Premium Campsite cost £316 for adults and £158 for age 13 – 17 (free for age 12 and under) and include entry to the festival and car parking.

For those of you that have already purchased a Bestival ticket we’re giving you the opportunity to pay the difference and upgrade to The Wild Copse. You can do this very simply by contacting your existing ticket agent and requesting the upgrade (you pay the difference between a standard ticket and a premium camping ticket, plus any difference in booking fees but no additional postage fees). If you are on an existing weekly payment plan, Ticketline will be able to help transfer you onto a new payment plan when you upgrade.

  • Bestival Benefit: Saturday 30th March at Nation, Liverpool

    • Bestivalbenefit

In September 2012, Bestival promoters and the entire festival team were utterly devastated to learn of the fatal coach crash involving Bestival-goers following our 2012 event. After extensive consultation with those affected and as a tribute to everyone involved, we would like to announce a very special charity night ‘Bestival Benefit’ on Saturday 30th March 2013.

“Bestival HQ and everyone connected to Bestival 2012 were devastated by what happened after our festival on the A3. We’ve been working to get an event set up to show some love and hopefully raise lots of money for those affected and their families and we’re pleased it’s in the home town of many of those involved; Liverpool. Thanks to everyone who has rallied round and contributed to making this event happen – everyone from the DJs and live bands to the venue Nation are donating their time and services for free so please get the date in your diary and prepare to party for a very good cause. See you on the dancefloor.” Rob da Bank

Michael Molloy, Kerry Ogden and coach driver Colin Daulby died in the tragic accident, Zach Washington-Young suffered life-changing injuries and many others involved were also affected. We knew that we had to do everything we could to show that they are in our hearts and minds so we’d be honoured if you would join us in paying tribute to them, helping us to raise as much money for charity as possible.

Iconic Liverpool landmark Nation, the home of Cream, has kindly provided us with the venue for a fundraising show hosted by Rob da Bank and The Cuban Brothers that will feature some of Liverpool’s finest and guests doing what they do best with proceeds from the night donated to charity.

Tickets priced £16.25 including booking fee are available now from Ticketline. Please save the date and put Saturday 30th March in your diary now. Full line-up details for this one-off event will be released very soon, so please watch this space.
